Our founder, Sean, often stands by the window at the Wuzhou Gem Building, watching the busy workshops below. It reminds him of his student days in Russia, where he first learned that a gem’s true value lies not in whether it’s natural or lab-made, but in the human skill and soul behind it.

“In the freezing cold of Siberia, my mentor told me, ‘A gem’s worth isn’t about where it comes from—it’s about the story and craft poured into it,” Sean often shares with the team. “That’s exactly why I came back to Wuzhou, the lab-grown gem capital of the world.”

Wuzhou’s Gem Industry: The World’s Best-Kept Secret

In the global jewelry scene, Wuzhou is a quiet giant. This city in Guangxi is known as the “World Capital of Lab-Grown Gems.”

The numbers speak for themselves: Wuzhou produces over 100 billion lab-grown gems each year. That’s about 80% of China’s output and 70% of the world’s supply. Simply put, most of the lab-grown gems out there started here.

It all began in 1982, when a Hong Kong gem maker named Cui Fuming visited family in Wuzhou and saw an opportunity. He set up the first gem processing workshop. Fast forward forty years, and Wuzhou now has a full supply chain—from growing crystals, cutting, and polishing, to design and e-commerce.

In the Wuzhou Gem Building, a 120,000-square-meter industrial park in Changzhou District, over 1,600 businesses operate. They handle more than 30,000 international orders every day. Walk through the streets of Wuzhou, and you’ll hear the sound of gem-cutting machines everywhere. Thousands of skilled workers turn raw materials into sparkling stones.

The industry here has gone through a tech revolution. By the late 1990s, Wuzhou was already making over 100 million gems a year, and 90% of the materials were sourced locally—no longer relying on imports.

Today, Wuzhou-developed gem-processing machinery is world-class. They can create jewelry with complex designs that compete on a global level.

Learning the Craft in Russia: Where East Meets West

Sean’s journey into jewelry started abroad. In the early 2000s, he traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia, to learn from a master jeweler. There, surrounded by art and history, he didn’t just pick up techniques like cutting and setting—he absorbed a whole philosophy of European jewelry design.

“My teacher came from a well-known Russian jewelry family. He always said, ‘Lab-grown gems aren’t just a cheap alternative—they’re a product of human creativity,” Sean recalls. “In the West, they focus more on design, skill, and originality, not just whether a stone is natural.”

That idea stuck with him. While still studying, he began asking: How can we blend Western design with Eastern manufacturing? How can we turn Wuzhou’s gems into works of art—not just another link in the supply chain?

Back to Wuzhou: Building a Dream in the Gem Capital

With this new vision, Sean returned to his hometown. He saw more than just the world’s biggest lab-grown gem base—he saw untapped potential.

Even though Wuzhou had scale, most businesses were still focused on semi-finished products. Sean knew that to raise Wuzhou’s profile worldwide, the industry had to move up the ladder—from basic processing to building brands and creating higher-value products.

“Wuzhou doesn’t lack skill or production capacity—it lacks brands and creative vision,” Sean said early on. “We didn’t want to be just another factory. We wanted to create a jewelry brand that represents the best of what Wuzhou can do.”

And we blend Eastern skill with Western style. Thanks to Sean’s background, our designs mix fine workmanship with global aesthetics—made for today’s customers.

Building a Bridge: Taking Wuzhou Gems Global

We see ourselves as a gateway—connecting Wuzhou with the world.

We control the whole process. From sourcing gems locally, to designing and crafting, to selling directly online—we cut out the middlemen. That means better prices and real value.

We’ve gone digital. In March 2023, Wuzhou’s gem industry was named one of Alibaba’s “Top 10 Digital Trading Hubs.” We’re leveraging that. Most of our sales are through e-commerce, reaching customers everywhere.

We also offer custom design. Inspired by high-end brands, we let customers co-create their own jewelry. It’s personalized—but without the luxury price tag.

In 2024, the Wuzhou International Jewelry City broke ground. It’s a RMB 1 billion project that will bring together industry, trade, design, live commerce, and more. For us, it’s a huge opportunity to grow even stronger.

What’s Next: Writing Wuzhou’s Next Chapter

Forty years ago, Wuzhou cut its first lab-grown gem. Today, we’re building on that legacy.

We’re investing in R&D. In the next three years, we’ll open our own research center to develop new materials and techniques.

We’re growing talent. We’re partnering with local schools to train the next generation of gem artisans.
